Facebook 101 Tips – How to Find and Add Facebook Application to Facebook Page

Before we go in depth with facebook applications, first you need to know how to add them to your fan page and position them on either wall tab or box tab. So here goes:

Locate the facebook application

There are two methods to find applications on Facebook:

1. Application Directory

Applications sorted by categories, featured by Facebook and suggestions for you. You can use the search box to find the desired app easily.

      2. Search box on your Facebook account

Without having to navigate to application directory everytime, you can use the search box right on top of your Facebook account.

 If you don’t know the name of the application, can try to find it via keywords. For example if you wish to import your blog into Facebook Page but don’t know which application to choose, try ‘RSS Feed’ in the search box.

When the results appear, select the right category for it (application).

Tips:  You can check through the applications and observe their user numbers; once you made your choice click ‘View Application’ and check its review to ensure your selection.

Adding the facebook application to your fan page

To add the application to your facebook (fan) page, on the application page:

1. click ‘Add To my Page’

Tip: ‘Go to Application’ will add the application to your personal account instead. Application without the option ‘Add to Page’ means that this app is not usable on facebook page.

 A list of your managed Facebook page will be displayed. Add the application to your selected fan page(s) with ‘Add to Page’:

      2. Go back to your Facebook Page (you can do so by using ‘Manage Page’)

       3. In your page, go to Edit Page > look for the name of the application you just added. If you manage to see it listed under Application that means it’s installed properly.

Application Settings

Now you need to edit the application settings.

Each application works differently thus they have different setup procedures. Let’s take the app ‘Social RSS’ for instance, it requires you to input your feed link, set posting frequency etc. But just following the instructions given to you will do.

Application positioning – Wall tab and box tab

After setting up your application, now it’s time to position it. There are two locations basically – one on the wall tab and another as box tab.

Add Application as Box Tab

Click Application Settings > Profile > click ‘add’ to add the application to tab

Add Application to Wall tab

Sometimes, an application gives you extra option to add to ‘box’. Usually this means you can place the application right on the Wall:
1. At box, click ‘add’

 2. Click ‘>>’ to look for ‘Boxes’ as illustrated:

 3. Once you found it, click at the pencil and ‘Move to Wall tab’

 4. The tab will now appear at the left column of your facebook page as Wall tab. You can move it back to boxes tab or remove it anytime.

Note: you can drag the wall tab up or down the column for positioning.

Setup auto-publishing for application updates

Go to Additional Permissions and tick as shown below. Hit Okay so the application can update your status to Wall post:
