Facebook 101 : How to Create an Event for your Facebook Page

Events tab is an effective facebook application for you to setup and announce company activities to bond with potential contacts and people who are interested in your business page. Your fans can RSVP and spread any existing events they are interested in to their family and friends with easy sharing ability provided by Facebook. If you can use Events tab smartly to provide value while bond with your supporters, no doubt you’ll have a tighter network while showing off your professionalism when communicating with your fans.  

To Create a New Event

To start an event, click ‘Create Event’ at the upper right corner of the tab. There are two sections you need to fill up: Event photo and details. Use a symbolic and memorable image such as your company/product logo is good for your branding:

For the event details, make sure to include as many information as possible – time, venue, type of meeting (whether it’s a webinar or real life event) etc. You are also given the option to display guest list to encourage participation from other visitors. (Pick your event title carefully; you won’t be able to correct it once it’s launched)

Once you have filled up the necessary details, the Events tab is ready. Here is the overview:

Events tab are public by default. Event information and guests lists are open to participants too. RSVP options are given : to attend, maybe or not attending. There will also be a list of guests which have yet to provide answers to RSVP, admin can follow up on them outside the tab if need be. 

I would like to highlight the Wall post section for the tab. Admin can set whether to allow non-admins to write on the wall. We do encourage two-way conversations between fans and company representatives but even so admins should be prone to check on Wall updates so to avoid spammers invading the territory.

Facebook is not supporting recurring event for the time being, therefore if your event is in weekly or monthly basis, you need to setup a new event every time.
