How to Change Your Facebook Page Name

I’m sure many of you had heard about this and no, it’s not a rumor. Facebook is indeed allowing some pages to change their page names, starting end of October 2010.

If you are following close to this, you probably know that not all pages have access to this feature. Only new pages or some with very few fans can get a name-change. Pages have less than 100 fans, you say? I don’t think there is an accurate number to that assumption. I had seen pages with over 100 fans can get a name-change, a few that have <100 fans do not get the ‘Name’ box listed anywhere in edit page. This inconsistency has left everyone questioning what factor determines if a page is qualified or not?

Why not ALL Facebook pages can change Facebook name?

The reason is simple: to prevent name-squatting when a popular page is sold to someone else with an existing fan base. That makes perfect sense. Facebook has the responsibility to make sure none of the users feel violated for such unjust act. You wouldn’t want to wake up and find yourself ‘liking’ an unknown page as a result of name squatting, would you?

So the debate goes on, why aren’t we given a chance to select the official page name we want? Actually you can, but must have reputable sources like major news publications to back you up. Here is a form you can fill if your page name is not accepted due to Page Guidelines but you want it anyway:
