How Facebook New Privacy Settings Can Protect Your Profile

So we have talked about privacy earlier in the posting how to hide yourself in Facebook. There have been some updates about the Facebook privacy settings lately so I thought it’s important to cover it.

Generally there are 5 areas in the new privacy settings. They are quite similar to the previous just a better categorization. The customization works the same as previous post – How to use facebook privacy settings so you can refer here to change viewing settings.

 You ought to go through each one of them to not leaving out any important sections. We will be going through them one by one:

1. Basic Directory Information

Here are your basic info and how strangers will be able to search or see your profile. You can hide your work, education and hometown details from showing. As for message sending and friend request, the highest security you can get is your friends and friends of friends respectively. One thing that’s great about basic directory setting is you can even hide your interests and pages you joined.

       2.  Sharing on Facebook

This section gives you more control over what to share and not. Facebook is considerate to provide you three types of settings: Everyone (allows public viewing), Friends of Friends, Friends Only. It’s ready and you just need to make your pick. If you prefer a stricter setting Facebook has a ‘Recommended’ setting that shows you more limitation of who can view your details. If you prefer to take matters on your own hands, customize them each at ‘Custom’ > ‘Customize Settings’.

 

       3.  Applications and Websites

If you are tired to go through each apps and turn them off each, here you can do a bulk clean up with a master setup ‘turn off’ or ‘remove’ all platform applications. You can do it selectively too if you like. Apart from that, you will be able to monitor info sharing from games, applications activities and public search of your profile. ‘Edit Settings’ so you get to personalize it better, especially watch out for ‘Instant Personalization’ where you can opt out from auto sign in for facebook partner websites.

 

       4.  Block Lists

You can block users and application invites from friends easily with this setting. Just provide the name or email as shown, of course you can unblock them any time too.
