Facebook Page Update: Page Layout Preview,Boxes Tab Removal
So the big brand has spoken, all users are to get ready for the BIG change on 23rd August 2010 and it affects everyone who owns a Facebook account.
It has been awhile since we heard about Facebook plans to narrow down the width of custom tabs, since early January 2010 up till today, when the date has finally been set to next week. There are basically two things that we expect to see:
- Facebook Page: New 520px width for all custom tabs replacing the good old 760px
- Facebook Personal & Business Page: Boxes tab will be removed
Starting on 11th, page admins are given preview layout on the custom tabs on their Wall. It is hoping admins can take necessary measures to fit their oversized tabs within 520px and prevent cut-offs. As for Boxes tab, I can’t help but wondering those pages who created their landing page out of boxes, this will be a major transformation for them to re-create a brand new welcome tab for visitors. Frankly speaking I will be missing those cute boxes on the Wall tremendously. So long for extra exposures and big hello to hidden tabs – not forgetting we only have 6 visible tabs, with ‘Info’ and ‘Wall’ tabs remained default..)
The Facebook alert on the matter is loud and clear. Although the idea is to simplify but no doubt everyone is wondering how well will the transition be done on the day. Could there be any unexpected glitches? Let’s hope not.
